About
I'm Jack. I'm a software engineer and entrepreneur based in London. I currently work on developer experience at Layercode, a voice AI infrastructure company, and I run Scaling DevTools.
Over the past few years, I've interviewed 100+ developer tools founders on the Scaling DevTools podcast. I started it because I was genuinely curious about how people build great products for developers. The biggest thing I've learned is that the best founders talk to their users constantly. Sounds obvious. Rarely done.
Before all this, I studied Computer Science at Imperial College London and went through Founders and Coders. I founded Code at Uni where we taught programming at universities across the UK. I worked in enterprise sales at Stack Overflow, which taught me a lot about how developers actually discover and evaluate tools. Then I went back to building software — worked at a few startups and agencies as an engineer.
I like building things. Recent projects include StreamPot (open-source FFmpeg as an API, acquired by ittybit) and Sled (a voice interface for Claude Code that lets you run coding agents from your phone).
The thread through everything I do: stay close to the product or close to the customers. My best friend's uncle gave me that advice years ago and it's shaped every role I've taken since. I think the people building tools for developers are doing some of the most interesting work in tech right now, and I want to be as close to that as possible.
